Beliefs and taboos

Dai Nationality

Their religion is Southern Buddhism, which was adopted in the 6th to 8th century and had a profound influence on their politics, economy, culture and arts. Religious activities are so common that most 8 to 10-year-old boys, in particular in Xishuangbanna, are sent to temples where they learn sutras for one to five years. They then leave the temple and spend their lives as secularized monks.

Jingpo Nationality

Jingpo clothes

The dress of Jingpo women features large silver sheets on the shoulder, with silver necklaces and a pair of thick silver bracelets. Men like to bind their head with a patterned chiffon cloth. When they go out, they will often take with them a knife, a gun, and a small bag with betel nuts or tobacco inside.

Local festival

Traditional festivals are the Zongge Festival, the New Rice Festival, the Pumpkin Festival, and the Nengxian Festival. On those important days, Jingpo people will get together, where they sing, dance, hold shooting competitions as well as performing a ‘knife dance’ regarded as a symbol of Jingpo ethos.

Attractions

Jiele Big Golden Pagoda

Jiele Golden Pagoda is called “Guangmuhemao” in Dai language and means “a pagoda at the end of Ruili basin.” It is located on a slope about 300 meters southwest of Jiele, Ruili. Road No. 320 runs along its side.
According to Dai historical records “Mihan”, at one night during the reign of Sutagongmala Prince, he found that the Jiele slope glitters, so he sent others to find out the reason. It was found that there were there seven kinds of bones include those of Sandy bear, wild bird, cow and man there. Also called “Golden Bear Pagoda.”

Peacock Lake

The Peacock Lake ecological area is 5.2 kilometers from east Mangshi city. It is named after the fact that it is a historical habitat for green peacocks and the shape of the lake looks like a peacock displaying its fanned tail.

Bodhi Temple

In front of historical records, the temple was originally built. During the 12th year of Qianlong Emperor’s reign (1673 AD) in Qing Dynasty. It is said that the elder son of an official in Mangshi gave up his job to become a monk, and then built the temple, which got its name because of a Bodhi tree in its front. The temple was destroyed by the uprising during the 17th year of Kangxi Emperor’s reign (1678 AD), but was rebuilt according to its original structure in 1710. The temple, however, was burnt during a celebration ceremony in 1950. Three years later, the public raised money to rebuild the temple, and a large bare-foot Buddha scripture was sent from Beijing by the Buddhist Association of China. In 1956, the government allocated money to renovate the temple and g Ot the Shariputra from Beijing. Unfortunately, the temple was damaged again during the Cultural Revolution and monks were dispersed. In 1978, it was renovated again. Dadenghan Dai Village

Dadenghan Dai Village is located 20 kilometers away from the south of Ruili City, Yunnan Province. Known also as a “natural tropical rural park,” it was awarded with the moniker “National Agricultural Tourism Model” in 2004 by the National Tourism Bureau.
In Dai dialect, “Dadenghan” is pronounced as “Denghannong”, meaning “the golden pond”. Legend has it that it used to be a huge swirl formed by the water of the Ruili River. The water from upstream flowed down and conglomerated there , and Dai people thought it was a symbol of “assembling wealth”, and named it “the Golden Lake”. The watercourse was moved into another route afterwards, and a village was formed there.

Jiegao Border Trade Zone

Wanding Ecological Park

One Tree Forest

The Tree is located near Mangling Village and looks like a green forest from afar, but is only only a banyan tree. Dayingjiang River Tourism Area

Dayingjiang River is a branch at the upstream of Irrawaddy River. It takes its rise from Danzha River and Binglangjiang River in Tengchong County. The two rivers join up with each other in the Old town of Yingjiang County, and then form the Dayingjiang River, which Flows through Tiger Leaping Stone and then runs south to the Irrawaddy River in Burma. It finally flows into Bay of Bengal. Dayingjiang River is about 205 km long with 146 km in Yijiang County. Menghuan Grand Golden Pagoda

Tree-Wrapped Pagoda

It is a miraculous pagoda in Youyi Lu of Luxi City. Three Fairies Cavern

There is a natural rock cavern on the cliff of Mount Sanjiaoyan, 40 kilometers away from the southwest part of Mangshi. Yunyan Pagoda

It is an important Buddhist tower of Hinayana of Yunnan situated in the Yunyan Hill in Yingjiang County. Shopping

This town is located at the Chinese-Burmese border. There is much trade in imported goods, notably jade and fabrics. Wooden furniture (sourced from Burmese logs) is also widely available.
