Destination sketch

Daofu County is 217 kilometers away from Kangding, the state capital of Ganzi Prefecture. It has picturesque Yala scenery, Bamei stone forestt, Huiyuan Temple, Lingque temple and classical Daofu dwellings.

Local life

Usually the Tibetan people eat three meals a day, but during the busy harvest season they will have four, five and often more. Their staple foods are tsamba, yak butter tea, mutton, and beef. Tsamba, made of highland wheat (Qingke) is convenient to carry around and eat whenever you want, so you can see many of them carrying tsamba bags. As for drinks, they enjoy chang, a type of wine also made from Qingke, and milk tea. The Tibetan knife, sharp and delicate, is often used to cut meat.

Beliefs and taboos

People living here believe in Tibetan Buddhism.
You can find many Mani stone piles and prayer flags along the way. Both of them are the way that Tibetan people use to pray.

Daofu dwellings

The Tibetan dwellings in Daofu County of Ganzi Prefecture can be called the masterpiece of the world’s residential architecture. Its distinctive features and the implementation of natural forest protection projects have made such a “big wooden house” which is difficult to recreate and almost become an out-of-print building, so the remaining Daofu dewllings are precious.
Daofu houses are mostly brown and white in appearance, flat and wooden. Because Daofu is located in a seismic zone, the seismic resistance of these buildings is at least 7 or above. The top of the Victory Tower is a good place to take a bird’s eye view of the Daofu dwellings area.

Zaba Male-leaving Marriages

The Zakba people have a matriarchal family, a patrilineal family, and a bilateral family.

Zaba dance

The dance of Zaba is different from that of Tibetan villages such as Guozhuang, Xianzi and Reba. Zaba dance is a necessary ritual to be held each year at the beginning of spring cultivation. It is used to pray for the prosperity of the grain and it has several thousand years history.

Daofu County is a cold temperate continental monsoon climate zone with an average annual temperature of 8.2°C, an annual average minimum temperature of minus 14.3°C, and an annual maximum temperature of 29.9°C. The temperature difference between day and night is huge, and the winter is long and summer is short, and the winter is cold and dry.

Intercity traffic

 

Long distance bus

Chengdu Xinnanmen Station has a shift to Daofu at 6:30, and the fare is 231 yuan. At 10.00 there was 1 shift to Luhuo, and the fare was 211 yuan. There is a shuttle bus to Luhuo at 6:45 in Kangding Bus Station. The fare is 91.5 yuan. At 7:00, there is a shuttle bus to Daofu. The fare is 63 yuan.

Luhuo Bus Station
The station is sent to Kangding on a daily basis and the fare is 98 yuan. The shuttle bus from Kangding to Sertar will pass through the station, but the time is not fixed. Travelers who want to go from Luhuo to Sertar can go for a carpool around 50 yuan with poor road conditions.

Yala Mountain

Located in the Xiede Township of Daofu County, Yala Mountain is 5,820 meters above sea level. It is the second highest peak of the Big snow Mountains and echoes with Gongga Mountain.

Jade stone sea

Jade stone sea has an elevation of 4,000 meters and an area of about 1 square kilometer. There are very spectacular tower forest on the shore of the jade stone sea. The water will show different colors in different season, making people dazzled.

Bamei stone forest

Bamei stone forest is located on the right side of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway and covers an area of about 5 square kilometers. The most magical thing about the Eight Beauty Stone Forest is that its appearance will show silver gray, blue gray and dark green as the season changes.

Yuke Ecological Reserve

Yuke Grassland is in a narrow and long forest valley in Daofu County. The Yuke River flows through the whole territory and meets the Dadu River at the Guanyinqiao boundary. There are continuous grassland fences, prayer flags Forest, and White stupa in the Reserve.

Zun Sheng white stupa

The White stupa is opposite to the Lingque Temple of Nicuo Mountain and is one of the most magnificent landmarks in Kham. If you can climb the 13th floor of the White Tower, you can overlook the scenery of Daofu.

Lingque Temple

The Lingque Temple is famous for its butter color statue and butter flowers. Every year on the 15th of the first month of the Tibetan calendar, the Lingque Temple holds a butter flower festival. Tibetans gather on the square in front of the temple to watch the gorgeous butter flowers and Butter lamps.

Attractions in Luhuo

 

Shouling Temple

Shouling Temple is located on the edge of Luhuo County. It is a temple of the Gelug schoolof Tibetan Buddhism. Shouling Temple is the largest temple in Luhuo County and was built in 850 AD. The temple now seen was rebuilt in 1988. The statue of Buddha Sakyamuni is enshrined in the temple, and there is another Maitreya temple in the temple. There are a lot of cultural relics in the Temple of Life, Buddha statues, offerings, scrolls, and Thangka.

Casa Lake

Casa Lake is located in Casa Village, Chonggu Township, Luhuo County, at an elevation of 3510 meters. It is a typical plateau brook lake, and is a famous sacred lake. In the south of the lake, there is a Tibetan village, you can enjoy the wood architecture of the collapsed building, which is also known as the Mulengzi building, and feel the strong ethnic customs.

Zongta Prairie

Zongta Grassland is located in the northeast of Luhuo County. It is the most beautiful season in July and August each year. Tsampa

It is a Tibetan and Himalayan Nepalese staple foodstuff, particularly prominent in the central part of the region. It is roasted flour, usually barley flour and sometimes also wheat flour. It is usually mixed with the salty Tibetan butter tea.

Butter tea

Traditionally, it is made from tea leaves, yak butter, water, and salt, although butter made from cow’s milk is increasingly used, given its wider availability and lower cost.
