Overland Pakistan – China – Mongolia driving road trip

Day 1 Enter from Kunjerab Port.

From 1998 to 2012, Khunjerab Port has been open on May 1st every year.

At the end of 2012, due to global warming, the opening hours of Khunjerab Port were advanced to April 1 of each year under friendly consultations between the Chinese and Pakistani governments.

Day  2 ：Kunjerab – Kashgar

We will transfer all of you to Kashgar.

Overnight: Today can’t stay in car or camping. Your Hotel for tonight included in price.

Day 3: Kashgar

Get your temporary Chinese driving license and temporary number plate.

Overnight: Seman hotel

Day 4: Kashgar

We will finish the rest of the procedures in Kashgar. Obtain your temporary driver license and
temporary number plate. At the same time you could have a visit of this city.

Day 5 Kashgar – Hotan (500km)

Arrival in starting point of Taklamakan desert, prepare substances for driving on desert roads for the next two days.

Day 6 Hotan – Aral desert road (400km)

Camping one night in desert

Day 7 Aral desert road – Kuqa (233km)

Driving out of desert. You will visit Tianshan mysterious grand canyon with Yadan landform today.

Day 8 Kuqa – Korla (300km)

On the way from Kuqa to Korla, you can see the snowy mountains in the distance.

Day 9 Korla – Turpan (400km)

Visit opportunity: Grape Valley, Karez, flaming mountain
Overnight: camping or hostel

Day 10 Turpan – Dunhuang (800km)

Big driving day on highway, drive out of Xinjiang province today.
Overnight: camping or hostel

Day 11 Dunhuang

Visit opportunity: Mogao cave, situated at a strategic point along the Silk Route, at the crossroads of trade as well as religious, cultural and intellectual influences, the 492 cells and cave sanctuaries in Mogao are famous for their statues and wall paintings, spanning 1,000 years of Buddhist art.

Day 12 Dunhuang

Visit opportunity: crescent lake, Mingsha mountain
Activity: ride camel, sand skiing

Day 13 Dunnhuang – Jiayuguan (370km)

Visit opportunity: Jiayuguan great wall, the hanging great wall
Overnight: camping or hostel

Day 14 Jiayuguan – Zhangye – Minle (300km)

Visit opportunity: Seven-color Danxia National Geopark

The mountains are full of unbelievable colours, changing tone depending on the height of the sun; extraordinary is the sunset!
There are five viewing platforms for you to watch and shoot. You will visit one by one, and will be transferred by park buses from one deck to another.

After visit Danxia Geopark, continue driving to Minle county.

Day 15 Zhangye – Qinghai Lake (400km, altitude: 3200m)

Visit Matisi (horse hoof temple) in the early morning, it is one temple on the mountain cliff, all of our clients love it.
You will enter Qinghai – Tibet plateau today, the landscape changed from Gobi Desert to Plateau Grassland. Driving to high altitude today, you will see yaks.
Some people may have altitude sickness today, it’s normal. Drink more water, pee more. Walk slowly, don’t jump!

Day 16 Qinghai Lake – Tongren (300km, altitude: 2500m)

Visit opportunity: Tongren is the center of Regong Art, Regong Art comprises paintings (murals and Thangka), barbola embroidery as well as clay, wood, brick and Yak butter sculptures. As a glamorous flower born from the soil of Tibetan Buddhism, it reflects various art genres and myriad regional civilizations. It has been crowned as UNESCO Intangible Heritage, a fitting honor for this incredible cultural gem.

Day 17 Tongren – Labrang (105km, altitude:3000m)

Visit Labrang monastery, there will be sutra practice at sutra hall every morning at 11:00am.
Exploring Labrang monastery by yourself in the afternoon.

Day 18 Labrang monastery – Tianshui (440km)

Visit opportunity: Maijishan Grottoes

Day 19 Tianshui – Xi’an (353km)

Arrive in Xi’an in the late afternoon, visit Muslim street filled with local snacks.
Watch night view about drum tower and bell tower.

Day 20Xi’an

Visit opportunity: Terracotta-Army, Shaanxi historical museum, Giant Goose Pagoda

Day 21 Xi’an – Luoyang (380km)

Visit opportunity: Longmen Grottoes, Shaolin Temple

Day 22 Luoyang – Pingyao (400km)

Visit opportunity: Pingyao ancient town, Qiao’s Grand Courtyard

Day 23 Pingyao – Datong (382km)

Visit opportunity: The Yingxian Wood Tower
Hanging temple, built more than 1,500 years ago, this temple is notable not only for its location on a sheer precipice but also because it is the only existing temple with the combination of three Chinese traditional religions: Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.

Day 24 Datong – Beijing (345km)

Driving to the capital of China, taste Beijing Roast Duck in Beijing at night.

Day 25 Beijing

Visit opportunity: Forbidden city, Tian’an men Square, Temple of Heaven, Hutongs

Day 26 Beijing – the Great Wall (150km)

Hiking in the wild part of the Great Wall.

Day 27 the Great wall – Ulanqab (441km)

Watch the sunrise of the Great Wall, continue driving to Ulanqab.
