About Kawa Karpo

Kawa Garbo or Khawa Karpo, as it is known by local residents and pilgrims, or Kawagebo Peak, is the highest mountain in the Chinese province of Yunnan. Kawagarbo is one of the most sacred peaks in the Tibetan world.

Day01 Arrival Kunming

Kunming arrival, transfer to hotel.

Day02 Kunming / Shangri-la Suntsenling Monastery,Gyalthang,Yunnan

-Transfer to airport for flight to Shangri-la (Gyalthang).
-Suntsenling Monastery ( the biggest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan is also known by the name of “Small Potala Palace”. )

Day03 Shangri-la – Feilaisi Kawa Karpo,Yunnan

-Dondrup Ling Monastery ( one of the most influential monasteries of Gelupa Tradition housed over 700 Buddhist monks during its peak time by the end of the 19th century. )
-Feilasi ( a nice village only 15 minutes drive from Dechen Town. )

Day04 Feilaisi – Lungdre Kawa Karpo Trekking

-Kawa Karpo ( the highest mountain in the Chinese province of Yunnan.[2] It is located on the border between Dêqên County, Yunnan, and the counties of Zogang and Zayü of the Tibet Autonomous Region.)
-Yangzan

Day05 Trek to Lungnak Kawa Karpo Walking,Yunnan

-Lungnak Camp
-“Dongla pass” (3261m) ( on the way you will visit the beautiful river valley.)

Day06 Walk to Manitong Kawa Karpo Pilgrimage Circuit

-Manitong (3340m).
-Dokhe-La Pass ( The famous French woman explorer Alexandra David Neel once took this route in the early 20th century. )

Day07 Trek to Tsasok Thang

-Tsasok-Thang (3750m).
-DokheLa (4470m) ( then down to a high pasture. For the Tibetans, this pasture means “the stone step to the heaven”. It is the most strenuous day. )

Day08 Trek towards Tsasok Thang

-Chunathang (2560m).
-Trangche (3440m)
-Lho Oesel ( where one can see the Mt. Kawa Karpo and Lho Du Be. )

Day09 Trekking to Yubeng village

-Shingkang-La pass (3690m) ( a break in a mountain range or other high obstruction, used for transportation from one side to the other )
-Aben Tibetan village (2,250m) ( One of the most beautiful villages on this Kora, Aben, we can meet the hospitable villagers. )

Day10 Walk to Zinak Tibetan Village

-Zinak village (2650m).
-Chudrol hot spring ( in the Chawalong Tibetan village (1900m). )
-Mani (Tibetan stones) temple ( stone plates, rocks and/or pebbles, inscribed with the six syllabled mantra of Avalokiteshvara, as a form of prayer in Tibetan Buddhism.)

Day11 Hiking to Gebu village

-Gebu village (2400m) ( which is the half way stage towards the Kora )
-Tangtoe-la pass (3360m)
-Radha village ( beside the Tsayuqu River, tributary of the Nu-Jiang (Salween). )

Day12 Trekking towards Dagula

-Dagula ( The best place to enjoy the sight of namjagbrawa peak )
-Thakor Chonyi pass (4100m)

Day13 Trekking to Ladho village

-Ladho village.
-Gabtsa-La pass (4200m)
-Gabtsa Chuka
-Ladho village ( this is a beautiful and picturesque village, so we will rest here.)

Day14 Trek to Mechok Pangang Trek ascending to Pass during Kawa Karpo Outer Circuit

-the Shola (4815m)(This is one of the hardest treks of the trip as we ascend to highest pass of the trip)               -Mechok Panggang ( at 4200m enjoy the sight of the entire Kawa Karpo range there. )

Day15 Trek to Chuzom Walking trail on the Kawa Karpo Outer Circuit

-Chuzom (3460m)
-Shola pass (4815m

Day16 Trek to Meilishui, transferred to Dechen )Enjoy the last hours walking on the Kawa Karpo Pilgrimage Outer Circuit

-Menroe Shoe (Meishi in Chinese, at 2200m. )
-Dechen (3320m)( under the administration of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, located in the northwest of Yunnan province, China.)

Day17 Dechen – Shangri-la First Bend of the Golden Sand River

-Shangri-la ( earthly paradise, and particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia – a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world.)

Day18 Depart Shangri-la

Free and transfer to airport for departure flight (via Kunming). End of your journey.
